Perimenopause from

Today I attended a cookie party, you know one of those things were a
bunch of women get together and gossip for a couple of hours and then
exchange cookies. It is Christmas time and this is the best way of
getting fresh homemade cookies of all different kinds without having to
bake them all.
It happened to be quite chilly today, in the 20's. Everyone was
complaining about how cold it was and then there was me. I was dressed
in nothing but a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt and was still hot.
Menopause was in full swing today. All the ladies at the party were in
there 30's and got a good
laugh out of my hot flash. Just wait. I am only 44. Holy cow, I thought
I was too young to be going through this. But now all the mood swings
are starting to make sense.
Perimenopause, or pre-menopause is a transitional stage of two to ten
years before complete cessation of the menstrual period. Its average
duration is six years, and can appear in women from 35 to 50 years of
age. This has not been a stage of women's lives much talked about, and a
woman can find herself experiencing puzzling changes, and not know why.
What is actually going on is a gradual decrease of estrogen. The
manifestations of perimenopause can vary.

The first clue for most women that they're in the transition to
menopause, perimenopausal, is that their menstrual cycles become
irregular. Their periods may occur more often, the flow may be lighter
or heavier, or they may begin to skip periods altogether.
You may begin to experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats,
and insomnia. Those women who are especially sensitive to changing
hormone levels may also complain of headaches, because the blood vessels
have constricted.
Another factor is when your mother began menopause. My mom started at
47, so I guess it is time for me to experiences the great venture of
perimenopause.
